AI applications: An inevitable advancement in education and scientific research

AI is no longer a distant concept but has become an indispensable part of many aspects of life, from manufacturing, healthcare to economics, education, and scientific research. However, alongside great opportunities, AI poses numerous challenges that scientists, educators, and technology experts must address. To provide a platform for discussion, sharing, and exploring suitable directions in this field, LHU on March 28, 2025 organized a scientific conference themed “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges in the Digital Age” which took place at Auditorium A301.

AI in education – Opportunities and innovations

AI is ushering in a new era where machines not only perform simple tasks but also learn, think, and make decisions. The rapid advancement of AI technology raises several important questions: How can AI be effectively applied in education? How should data security and AI ethics be addressed? Will AI replace human roles in teaching and scientific research?

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy presenting the topic "Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges in the Digital Age"

At the event, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy - Member of the State Council of Professors, Chairman of the Information Technology Professor Title Council (Ministry of Education and Training), Head of the Expert Group on National AI Strategy Development (Ministry of Science and Technology), a leading expert in AI shared insights into global and Vietnamese AI development trends. He emphasized that for AI to truly serve as a tool supporting humans, it is essential to have appropriate policies, along with well-prepared human resources, and technological infrastructure.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hung presenting "AI Applications in Education" and "AI Applications in Teaching and Scientific Research"

One of the highlights of the conference was the role of AI in education. Keynote speakers, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Hung and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Huy, provided valuable insights into the practical applications of AI in teaching and scientific research.

Empowering researchers with AI

AI not only supports teachers but also empowers researchers to handle data, build analytical models, and optimize scientific research processes. The event highlighted AI’s roles in improving the quality of scientific papers and increasing publication success in prestigious international journals like Web of Science and Scopus, and contributing to the development of LHU’s faculty and research teams.

A panorama of the conference

One of the conference's key objectives is to enhance the reputation of LHU journal of science, aiming for recognition by the State Council for Professors in the Information Technology field. This is an important step forward that strengthens LHU’s standing in scientific research and technology.

“The conference serves as a vital platform for experts, researchers, and students to exchange knowledge, discuss trends, and explore real-world applications of AI. It also paves the way for interdisciplinary research collaborations. In the coming time, the Center will focus on developing AI-driven research projects in education, healthcare, engineering, and management, while strengthening international partnerships and technology transfer to enhance the University’s position” - Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Director of LHU’s Center of Scientific Research and Applications shared.

 The conference successfully held

Beyond discussions on AI in education and research, the conference provided an opportunity for LHU’s leaders to engage in collaboration talks with delegates from universities, research institutes, and businesses, covering potential partnerships in doctoral training programs, scientific research, and AI applications in practice. AI cannot thrive without the collaboration between universities, businesses, and research institutes. Therefore, this event not only fosters a collaboration network but also lays the foundation for future research projects and AI applications.
