Do you believe that Tourism students at Lac Hong University study in an actual hotel? It may sound unbelievable, but this is the distinctive training model currently implemented at The Faculty of Administration International Economics. With a practice-oriented training approach, the University has built a training hotel right on campus to enable students of Tourism and Travel Management to gain early exposure to a real professional environment.
The hotel is not merely a physical facility but also a special classroom – where students continuously experience, practice, and refine their professional skills. During practical sessions, students receive detailed guidance on work processes in various departments such as front office, housekeeping, restaurant operations, customer service, itinerary/tour business development, and tour organization. Simulated scenarios are regularly incorporated into the curriculum to train students’ flexibility, quick responsiveness, and adherence to professional service standards. This distinctive feature enables Lac Hong University students not only to master theoretical knowledge but also to develop operational thinking, a professional attitude, and confidence in handling tasks.
As one of the students currently studying in class 22QD111, Vo Thi Thuy Van shared: “At first, I thought practical learning would only involve observation or basic operations. However, when I directly experienced different positions in the hotel such as welcoming guests at the front desk, preparing standard rooms, serving restaurant menus, or guiding guests during a tour program, I clearly felt my growth after each class session. In particular, when participating in designing a sample tour – from developing the itinerary and pricing table to presenting it before lecturers – I truly realized the interdisciplinary nature and high practical requirements of the profession. What I value most is that each lesson is associated with specific situations. Thanks to that, I not only gain a deeper understanding of the job but also develop flexible responsiveness and maintain professionalism in all situations.”
For The Faculty of Administration International Economics, the training hotel model is not only an advancement in teaching methodology but also clear evidence of the strategy of “training for job readiness.” The Faculty’s goal is to educate students who are not only professionally competent but also equipped with strong vocational skills, a solid understanding of industry practices, and the ability to quickly adapt to the working environment after graduation.
With the rapid development trend of the Tourism industry, this training model will continue to be improved and expanded to further enhance training quality and affirm the reputation of Lac Hong University in the field of applied education. A hotel on campus – not only a place to study, but also the starting point for each student’s promising professional journey.
