The Moot Court Competition (Mock Trial) is a national-level competition annually hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, attracting enthusiastic participation from law students at universities across the country. The competition aims to provide law students with opportunities to practice and experience the role of litigation lawyers before a “simulated” Arbitral Tribunal. Participating teams prepare documents, case files, and arguments to present before the arbitral tribunal (comprising reputable, experienced, and highly specialized legal experts) regarding legal issues in a “simulated” case. Each year, the competition is organized based on specific criteria and themes, creating a healthy and beneficial academic playground where students can develop professional legal skills.
The National Moot Court Competition – VMOOT 2023 has created an academic environment that offers students opportunities for healthy competition, thereby enhancing their advocacy skills and expanding their professional knowledge of legal issues. At the same time, the competition has attracted significant practical interest and serves as a platform for law students to litigate as “real” lawyers, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of the parties before the Arbitral Tribunal, thereby improving participants’ professional legal skills. After many years of organization, the competition has become one of the leading prestigious academic competitions for law students nationwide, drawing participation from numerous universities and positioning itself as a beneficial academic forum and learning environment for students with strong legal thinking and debating abilities.
With the aim of providing students of the Economic Law major at Lac Hong University with opportunities to become familiar with, access, and challenge themselves in the competition, the University seeks to enhance their specialized research capacity as well as create a healthy and beneficial academic environment for developing professional skills. Participation in the competition also offers students valuable opportunities to improve their debating skills and gain experience in resolving legal issues during their university studies.
Building on the results achieved and the continuous efforts of the guiding lecturers and student team in the National Moot Court Competition 2022, in 2023, LHU was represented by two teams competing in VMOOT 2023. These participants were third-year students majoring in Economic Law under The Faculty of Administration International Economics. Throughout the competition process, students received dedicated support from lecturers of the Economic Law major, who provided detailed guidance and clarification on competition-related questions connected to various subjects through consultation sessions. In particular, the teams received encouragement and strong support from MB Huynh Thi Nhu Hieu – Head of the Business and Commercial Law Division – along with professional guidance from the supervising lecturers: MB Vu Thi Thanh Huyen – Head of the Finance and Banking Law Division; MB Vo Anh Phuc – Lecturer of Economic Law; and MB Ngo Thi Kim Anh – Lecturer of Economic Law. Their guidance enabled the two teams to successfully complete their competition rounds at the National Moot Court Competition VMOOT 2023.
With six years of organizational experience (2017–2023), VMOOT has increasingly demonstrated its strong appeal not only to students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law but also to other law training institutions nationwide. Therefore, this serves as motivation for Ho Chi Minh City University of Law to continue expanding and enhancing the quality of the competition to attract more students across the country. The competition is not only an opportunity for students to acquire additional knowledge and new skills but also an important foundation for their future professional careers. At the same time, it provides a solid platform for Economic Law students to access practical knowledge and real-life cases, contributing to the future success of Economic Law graduates.
